The transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy inevitably requires companies to make additional investments and leads to increased costs. Carbon taxes applied in European Union countries have increased approximately sixfold in the last three years. The number of companies setting a "zero emissions" production target to avoid the negative impact of these carbon taxes is increasing daily. Another way to keep cost increases at a reasonable level while complying with new technical and legal standards is through innovation. To achieve their transformation, companies can implement new business models through intrapreneurship or collaborate with startups through open innovation, providing significant cost advantages.
